How do I create a Canvas assignment for my Mastery Connect tracker?

If your institution uses Canvas LMS, you can link a Mastery Tracker to a Canvas course. Once this connection is made you can access your Mastery Tracker in your Canvas course, which includes mastery data, assessments built with third-party item banks, and tools to support competency-based learning. Existing Mastery Trackers may already contain Mastery Connect assessments.

You can also create an assignment or graded discussion in Canvas associated with a Mastery Connect standard, which will automatically populate the assignment or graded discussion into your Canvas-linked Mastery Tracker.

Notes:

  • If a Mastery standard-aligned Canvas assignment is deleted in Canvas, it will automatically delete the linked assessment from the Mastery Tracker. Restoring the assignment in Canvas will create an entirely new Mastery Connect raw score assessment.
  • If you edit a Mastery standard-aligned Canvas assignment and change the Mastery standard, the Mastery assessment will automatically be removed from the old standard and repopulate with scores in the new standard within the Mastery tracker.
  • Removing a student assignment score in Canvas will also delete the student score from the Mastery tracker. Changing a Canvas assignment score will also change the Mastery tracker score to reflect it.
  • Canvas New Quizzes are not eligible for direct alignment to a Mastery standard. If your Canvas assignment contains a quiz, you must use Classic Quizzes for the assignment to populate in Mastery Connect.
