Creating and Managing Tag Groups
You can create tag groups to help organize and categorize product tags. Tag groups are then used as a component across a variety of other custom features, like custom search filters.
TIP: See How To Add and Configure Product Tags beforehand.
Creating a Tag Group
To create a tag group, as an organization administrator, navigate to Settings [1], and select Tags, Filters & Lists [2]. > Tag Groups and select “Create Tag Group”
In Tags, Filters & Lists, select the Tag Groups tab [1] and select the Create Tag Group button [2].
In Create Tab Group, you will be prompted for several selections:
- Name your tag group [1].
- Select the tags that make up the tag group [2] - they will appear in the box to the right in the order that you select them [3].
- Select whether the group is a single select group or not [4] - more about single select groups can be found below.
- Determine the order and indentation level of the tags in the tag group.
- The order can be modified using drag and drop, just click and drag the six-dotted handle on the left side of the tag.
- The indentation level can be modified with the arrows.
- A tag cannot be more than one level indented from the tag immediately above it. If one is, then you will be alerted upon saving.
When complete, select the Create button [5] and your new tag group will be added to the tag group list.
Managing Tag Groups
- Managing tag groups is done on the Tag Groups tab of Tags, Filters and Lists.
- To edit an existing Tag Group, select the pencil icon to the right of the tag group [1].
- To delete an existing Tag Group, select the trashcan icon [2]. You will be asked to confirm that you would like to delete this group [3].
Tag Groups that are used to create a List cannot be deleted. Below is an example of the error message you will receive if you attempt to delete a Tag Group that is used in a List.
Single Select Tag Groups
Single select tag groups can be used to express mutually exclusive ideas like workflow statuses, levels of support, and categorization.
Once a group is created, a tool may only be tagged with one of the component tags. Adding a second tag from the single select group will automatically strip the other assigned tag from the tag group from the tool.
To create a single select tag group, when editing or creating a tag group, activate the Single select toggle.
You will not be able to activate the single select toggle if your tag group contains any system tags nor if your tag groups contain any tags that are already in another single select tag group. (Tags can be in multiple tag groups, but only one single select tag group)
Upon selecting the Create button, the system will ask you to resolve any existing tagging conflicts within the newly-created single select tag group.
For example, if EnglishTool is already tagged with both “Phase 1” and “Phase 2” tags and your new single select tag group contains both tags, then a warning will pop-up and give you a link to resolve the conflict. You may either adjust the tagging on the tool or the tags that are included in the single select tag group to resolve the issue. Once resolved, just click “Create” to re-check for conflicts and try again.
When tagging tools or creating tag groups, all tags that are part of a single select tag group will be noted with an "S" icon
