@daniellefilm ...
I can understand the frustration when we want to see things developed that we think should be a part of the "core" Canvas product. I've been in the same boat at times...waiting for my own ideas I've submitted to be implemented. This is just one example that was submitted back in 2011 in an old version of the Community, and when Instructure moved to a new Community platform, I submitted it on behalf of the person who originally submitted it because I thought it was an idea worthy of implementing. [Assignments] Move or Delete Incorrectly Submitted... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com) (You can see my comment right below it from 2015 on how it worked in the Pearson eCollege LearningStudio LMS.) So yes, I completely understand when waiting can be hard.
At the same time, I also understand that Instructure has a budget to work with...and not everything we want and hope for can be implemented. I'm not sure if you've had a chance to review the Canvas Product Roadmap - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com), but I'd encourage you to check it out to see what they have coming soon and further down the road.
This Guide might also be of some help:
And "voting" for the "theme" it's impossible right now, there's nowhere to vote.
You are correct that voting isn't open at this time. Earlier this year, Instructure implemented a change in how the voting process works here in the Community (this isn't the only way Instructure gets feedback about what to develop, by the way). You can read more about all of this in the following Guides:
THIS TOPIC SHOULDN'T BE CLOSED. It's an open IT ticket if anything.
Technically speaking, the topic isn't closed at all. There were originally two responses marked as a "Solution" (one of which was a response from @sandman). I removed the "Solution" from sandman's response because I didn't feel it was a solution that addressed @morrow's original question. However, @Steven_S did provide a response, and it has been marked with a "Solution" ... even though it might not be a complete answer, it's still letting people know that there's an Idea that's been submitted. Marking a response as a "Solution" does not close the conversation whatsoever. In fact, we can continue to have conversations about this topic, and if other people come up with ways to answer morrow's question, those can also be marked with a "Solution".
I'd encourage you to follow both the Idea that Steven_S linked to as well as the theme...so that when the voting window becomes available, you'll be able to participate in those conversations.
I don't know if any of the above will be of help to you or not, but I wanted to provide a bit more information for you just in case...for what it's worth.
Take care...be well.
