Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I find it a HUGE OMISSION on Canvas's part that there is no plagiarism checker in the Discussion Board assignments. I have to personally check them myself with random copy & paste into Google searches. SUCH a waste of instructors' time. When is Canvas going to correct this?
It's amazing how ignorant the folks at Canvas are to the needs of teachers.
@bharris7 and @KyleBrookman ...
I'm not sure how often you visit the Canvas Community website, but the process to submit ideas (formerly called Feature Ideas) has recently changed and is now referred to as Ideas and Themes. I think you'll be happy to know that one of the themes that has been identified by Instructure is:
Within this posting, you'll see a long list of Referenced Ideas. Near the bottom of this list is the following idea that has been submitted.
I would encourage both of you to follow each of these topics. And, when the topic opens up for voting, you can participate in those conversations. Here are some other documents that might be helpful to you:
I hope this information will be helpful to you. Sing out if you have any questions. Take care, and be well.
No need to vote. They just need to make basic things happen because there's an obvious need. Another example: why can't I view the quiz questions and answers when making a test? Why vote on something like this? We all need to see the questions and answers in quizzes.

I get it. I've been right there with you at times...wanting to see something developed in Canvas but yet having to wait many, many months (and sometimes years) for something to be developed. It sure would be nice if we could get everything we want...but we have to be realistic, too. Like other companies, they have a budget and a set of resources available to them. I can tell you from my own experience there are ideas I've submitted over the years that I would still like to see implemented. At the same time, Instructure has developed a few of my ideas that are now in the core Canvas product ... some of which are very, very minor things that a typical user probably wouldn't notice on a daily basis. (To be honest, I'm not sure why those minor ideas of mine got priority, but I am happy that they were able to take some time to look at my ideas.) That's why I highly recommend that you and others participate in the conversations that I've linked to above. It's how you'll be able to provide feedback to those that work directly with those areas of Canvas.

Are you still using current Classic Quizzes? If so, do you know if your school has enabled New Quizzes yet for you? If you are not yet using New Quizzes, you might want to have a conversation with your school's Canvas administrator or someone from their Online Learning / eLearning / Distance Learning department. They should be able to tell you what their schedule/plan is for enabling New Quizzes for you and the other faculty members at your school. Not all schools have decided to enable New Quizzes yet...but New Quizzes is coming so they will need to start making plans soon if they haven't already. They may have already enabled New Quizzes for you, and you could possibly try it out. Again, have a conversation with folks at your school about this. Here are a couple short videos on how you can identify the difference between Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes:
Hoping this extra bit of info will be helpful to you as well! Take care, and be well.
I am also encountering more and more students plagiarizing or rather not writing in their own voice. There is no check in discussions. It would be a great help to have this option to turn on a sim check.
