I'm using an LTI External Tool for assignments that was installed by admin.
Hi @KJ-ETR,
Can you tell us what the external tool is? External tools can vary pretty widely in how they work with Canvas, so without any specific info, we'd really just be speculating a lot here.
In general, tools that follow the LTI standard would pass grades back to Canvas in a percentage form, which Canvas would then take and multiply by the points possible for the assignment. I'd perhaps suggest checking the point value of your Canvas assignment to make sure it's correct. if the tool is acting like most pas passing a percentage, it sounds like the assignment is perhaps only set up as a 1 point assignment instead of something higher which you may want.
Hope to hear back from you soon!

Hi @chriscas, thanks for your reply!
The external tool is a digital content provider that confirmed the passback is working correctly. In the attached screenshot, I set the scoring of the assignment to points out of 10, and submitted a grade of 8.5 for a student. But in the gradebook it's showing as 0.85. I figured out I can override the grade in the column, but that's time-consuming as I won't be able to do that for every student that submits the assignment.
Hi @KJ-ETR,
Thanks for the additional info and screenshot. I'm going to assume you're a teacher for purposes of this response...
I'd recommend working with your school/institution Canvas administrator on this. They should be able to set up some kind of course to test the vendor integration to verify whether it works correctly in that course, or if they run in to the same issue.
It's possible the 3rd party integration is doing something unusual and requires additional steps on the tool side to send the right grade, but as I mentioned earlier, these tools are really so variable that it's hard to give exact advice when they misbehave like this.
