Hello fellow SmartSearch beta testers! I am curious as how you plan to beta test at your institution. Will you go campus wide? Are asking specific programs or instructors to test it in their courses?
Thank you in advance for sharing!
Hello!
I enabled it for our entire institution. However, we are on summer break so the only teachers that will see this are those that are working over the summer. I do plan on communicating the feature to those who are coming in this summer to work with me to test it's functionality.
Currently, it's enabled for our online high school for their summer session. I work in the same department, so it's easy to facilitate communication. I'll enable it for additional schools when they return from break.
We've opened it up for select instructors and are waiting for expanded functionality before going broader. From our experience, a large percentage of our users deliver content via files in Canvas rather than on Pages. Since the search is mostly of page content at this time, it makes it less useful for us.
We invited our central IT staff to test, including folks who have been doing a lot of AI research. WE enabled in one test subaccount and I am placing some courses with a lot of content in it. One course in particular should be interesting, because it's published on a vendor's instance of Canvas with Atomic Search enabled. So, we can compare the results on the same search expressions from two different search engines.
