In doing some testing of Smart Search, it appears that the Course Navigation link persists after the feature is disabled, which will likely confuse users who select the link and then get an access denied message. Fortunately the link itself can be disabled from the menu, which means that students won't see this error. Embedded is a silent video showing this:
I hope that the behavior changes so that if the feature option is disabled it automatically removes the link from the Course Navigation menu.

@ProfessorBeyrer Thanks for sharing your findings! Course navigation is persisted through caching for users and changing any feature flag that adds to it won't remove the nav item until the user's cache is refreshed for the course (easiest way is to update the nav list in course settings, any change will do). Hopefully we can improve feature flag behavior at some point soon, but it is separate work from Smart Search.
