To start off with, every person that is in a school's Canvas environment is considered a user. Then, as users are enrolled in courses, they are typically either enrolled with the "Teacher" role or the "Student" role. Sometimes users are also enrolled with other roles, but "Teacher" and "Student" are most common. All that being said, there's a really easy way you can tell what kind of role you have in any given course that you're enrolled in. This is by logging in to Canvas, clicking on the "Courses" icon on the far left-hand side global navigation menu, and then selecting "All Courses". You'll see a screen that shows all courses you're enrolled in...along with a column showing your role in that course. Here are a couple Guides...depending on your role (though the Guides are almost identical):
