My group assignment is not being recognised as a group assignment.

Hello!

I am an instructor and I created a group assignment on canvas, but for some reason canvas is recognising the assignment as an individual assignment.

So, when I try to use SpeedGrader, it's showing me that a number of students have missing assignments and I'll have to grade each student individually.

I checked the settings and it's definitely assigned to the right group set, and I did NOT click "assign grades individually".(image attached).

Any idea how to fix this? I'm not sure what happened. I set up a previous group assignment the same way and there were no issues.

Thank you very much!

A couple of questions.

1. Did you go into People, create groups, and sort the students into those groups first?

2. If one student submits some work, do the other students see any prompts indicating that their group has submitted the work? This might be up at the top of the assignment page indicating it was submitted and awaiting review.

It seems odd that it worked before, but not now, but these were the two questions that came to mind for me.

I have very similar thoughts to @JeffCampbell on this one.  Especially the part about assigning students to the group.  I have seen numerous times a scenario where only a handful of student were placed into groups.  If a student does not belong to any groups in the group set, their submission for a group assignment will essentially look like an individual submission.  That would be the first thing I'd suggest checking. Fair warning though, if that is the issue, I'm not sure I'd attempt to "fix" the groups at this point, as you could end up essentially losing many of the submissions your students already made individually.
