I like to create my own videos as course material, so I created a Youtube channel with hidden videos. If I want to insert a Youtube video in Canvas it let's me search for my own videos, but obviously doesn't search for hidden videos. And if I insert a video it does so with a 4:3 aspect ratio. I thought todays standard is full-HD.
Is there a way, without writing HTML, to insert a Youtube video by URL and in a normal aspect ratio (16:9)?

Are you using the embed code from your YouTube video to add it to your content page in your Canvas course?
While you may be able to use this Guide:

I prefer to take the harvested embed code directly from a YouTube video, and then paste that code into the RCE:

This should get you the 16:9 wide screen that you are looking for.
Hope this helps!
