How do you add a signature line in the Canvas email

Hi everyone!  Yesterday I stumbled upon a fairly new blog post from someone at Instructure, and I think you'll be pleased to see that signature files in the Canvas Inbox are coming.  Here's a link with the info...and more things, too!

Currently, this feature is not available in Canvas although it has been asked for a few times in the past, this feature has not gained any traction in the Community.  You can see the Feature Requests here:

@Robbie_Grant @pricejl  This is a feature that we desperately need here in CCPS.  Many families have multiple students, most of whom who have multiple teachers, all of whom utilize Canvas.  PLEASE give additional consideration into making an electronic signature a feature within Canvas Communications/Inbox.  With all students within CCPS utilizing Canvas to support distant learning, this feature would make a world of difference for parents!

I would like to see this feature as well as our college has a required signature block for all emails and having to copy and paste the required information is cumbersome and tedious.

I addition, when I clicked on the links you provided, I received a message that I did not have permission to access this information.  If you are determining user demand for a new feature from these links, you should make indicating the desire for the feature easily accessible to the users.

You may want to use the second link that  @Robbie_Grant ‌ gave you, https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/7873" modifiedtitle="true" title="Ability to add professional ..., to post a message for Instructure letting them know why a signature line would be important to you.  That Feature Idea was archived and put into Cold Storage, but you could still add a comment.

I would appreciate this feature as it would save time when responding to many emails.  Having my signature, title and contact information would be so helpful.  I have one on my gmail account which even includes my company logo.

I need this also.  I cannot imagine that it can be so difficult for a good programmer to fix this.  Is canvas trying to become as bad as blackboard at product support?

I can't speak to the difficulty or simplicity of adding a feature like this, but I can speak to the desire and need expressed by fellow community members.  As you can see by Robbie's comment here, this is an idea that comes into the community once in a while, but very few people express their need or desire for it.  You can add your vote and comment to the most recent idea if you are interested.  https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/12314-signature-block

Wow!  Seeing how this has been an ongoing discussion for two years, I expected to see no interest... since the feature still has not been added.  Seems like it would be a simple thing to do.  For the record, I am interested in having the ability to add a signature line when communicating via Canvas.  Thank you.

Please add the faculty capability to set and insert the faculty member's institution signature element in Canvas mail. The faculty's institution standard signature element would elevate the scholarly quality of correspondence and set a necessary scholarly example for students for their correspondence. The preset signature would significantly streamline providing scholarly format replies to student Canvas mail. Thank you.

I don’t think anyone is reading this? I don’t think many in the Canvas community take the time to read these forums.   It’s a shame this has been a subject for over 2 years and nothing has happened.  Is it too difficult to implement? Why can’t it be an option like it is on our emails?    I read one note that said not enough people are interested. ???? How can that be. ???   How would they know?  Not everyone follows up here.  I think the few who have spoken up about it brought enough valid reasons why a signature would be helpful.  Perhaps our requests are falling on deaf ears?  If so, then this forum is a waste of time!

I can certainly understand why it seems frustrating when a Feature Idea we want to see included in Canvas hangs around here in the Community for a long time and it seems that Canvas staff doesn't respond.  I can tell you from my own experience that this is not the case at all.  Instruture employees are out here, and they do value our input.  I've seen first-hand that they do come out to the Community to help answer questions and ask clarifying questions on Feature Ideas...among other things.  So, I'm glad to see that stefaniesanders‌ was able to give you an update over in https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/1552" modifiedtitle="true" title="Create Signatures for the In....

Also, I've submitted many Feature Ideas here in the Community.  Some of those ideas are like the one you're asking about...where they have been open for voting for many years.  For example: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/1130-editing-capabilities-for-rubrics or https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/1293-move-or-delete-incorrectly-submitted-assignments" modifie....  But, at the same time, I've also submitted Feature Ideas here in the Community that I never thought would see the light of day or would even be implemented in Canvas (though, I had my fingers crossed).  And, these Feature Ideas didn't even get that many votes: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/2133 or https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/7341-bold-title-field-of-global-announcements" modifiedtitle="....  While I don't have the inside scoop on what their development timeline is...I am glad to see that they were able to implement some of these small requests.

Since Canvas prides itself in personalizing information for students,  it is missing an opportunity for instructors to be able to personalize a signature for ourselves.  We often have multiple titles, degrees, contact information, and office hours.  It is unworkable to NOT have a customized signature feature for instructors.
