As an admin and other teachers in the course, the gradebook always displays fine for us, no matter what settings we chose. But, we have a particular instructor where the display is all messed up if he goes into the gradebook settings and chooses to show the total and override columns. The display of the grades is no longer centered in the field, and the box is only as wide as what needs to be displayed. We have tried everything that we can think fo including enenrolling him and putting him back in the course. trying it from different computers, like I said it works fine for every other admin and teacher.

That is very curious. Here are some things I recommend look into or trying:
Hi @WillDastrup and @rtoon,
If this is a recurring issue that @Hildi_Pardo's suggestions do not solve, I'd definitely recommend that you reach out to Canvas support so they can investigate and see if there is perhaps an unanticipated character entered somewhere that's causing a conflict with the gradebook code or exactly what else could be going on. If they figure that out, they may be able to engineer a fix for a future Canvas release.

Seeing the exact same issue here. Very strange.

Hi there, we have one instructor with precisely the same issue - it follows her from course to course and is independent of browser and device. While we've not succeeded at finding a root cause, we also found that hiding certain columns results in a more typical view of the gradebook. The instructor has hypothesized that her use of the Canvas app, for some grading, while out of the country, corresponds with the onset of the gradebook issues. Have others observed this? Has anyone found a solution?
For anyone reading this: We had a user with the same issue and the fix is to re-adjust the "Total" column on the far right. The user accidentally adjusted it to a wonky size, which threw off the whole grid. Once you resize the Total column, you should be good to go.
