We are looking to move from Classic View to Elementary View. We are all on board except for two issues. 1. Is there any way to get rid of the Banner on the individual course pages? Several teachers are concerned about all the real estate it takes up. Is there any way for it to default to modules as students enter instead of page view?

Hello, my name is Jackie. I am a member of the K12 CSM team 🙂 I see that you have some questions about Canvas for Elementary.
Currently, there is no way to remove the banner. The idea with Eleemtary theming is to make it easier, even for our non-readers to recognize things like colors and use them to navigate. Unlike classic Canvas the C4E theming allows a teacher to set a color that persists for all students so they can use colors to direct students in navigating their course content.
2. Is there any way for it to default to modules as students enter instead of page view?
Yes, a teacher can rearrange or move modules to be the first in the navigation and make it the default when a student opens their subject page. Additionally, the teacher can move the "home page" to be hidden from students if they are not planning to use it.
I hope this helps you to get started on your Canvas for Elementary journey!
@dvuillaume ...
Full disclosure, I've not really used the elementary theming all that much because I was a Canvas administrator in higher education. However, to answer your second question, you should be able to change the page view on the "Home" page to your "Modules". On your course "Home" page, click on the "Choose Home Page" button at the top right corner of the screen. In the "Choose Course Home Page" dialog box that opens, select "Course Modules", and then click the "Save" button. Here is a Guide with additional details:
How do I change the Course Home Page?
I hope this will help a bit. Sing out if you have any questions...thanks!
Thank you for the quick reply. Like you, I am used to the Classic View and its in and outs. When switching to Elementary Theme it appears that you lose the "Choose Course Home Page" option.

Oh bummer! I didn't realize that. Good to know...thank you for reporting back. Sorry that my response doesn't appear to have helped. ☹️
