Somehow, a few students' discussion-board posts are showing up in the "Comments" field of the students to whom they are replying rather than on the board where everyone can read them. I didn't know this was possible. Is this a quirk, or is it a feature I can turn off? I don't want students to assume those comments are from the instructor.

Hi @jbielecki,
Do you happen to have peer reviews enabled for that discussion? The only way I know of for a student to end up commending in that particular area is through peer review, though perhaps there are some other somewhat unique scenarios where this could take place (if students were also enrolled as a TA or other role with grading privileges).
My institution has been on Canvas for 12 years now, and I don't ever recall a case where this randomly happened, so I don't think it's a systemwide problem.
Please feel free to respond back when you have a chance!
