How can I have students receive an email of a delayed posted announcement
Good evening, @WilliamMartin ...
Canvas notifications are configured by each user individually. There is nothing that you can change on your end that would automatically send out an email notification about a delayed announcement. It's completely up to the user (in this case, students) whether or not they want to receive notifications via e-mail of announcements that you send out in your course. Please see these Guides for more information:
I hope these resources will be of help to you. Sing out if you have any other questions about this...thanks! Take care...be well.
Chofer,
Thanks for the reply -- let me clarify the situation. We have it set for the student to only be able to participate in the course from the start date to the end date of the course. The faculty create welcome announcements prior to the course start date and then set them delayed to post on the start date. So even if the student has elected to receive an email when the delayed announcement posts it shows up on the students dashboard but they do not receive an email because the post was created before the course start date. Wondering how we might work around this issue. The faculty would like to be able to create the announcement prior to the course start date and have it post on the start date but also have the students who have elected to receive email notifications get an email of that announcement when it posts. Seems like there is not a way to do that.
Thanks
Bill
Yeah, you're right! there is no way around it. It is a little silly of Canvas to claim that announcements can de delayed, but still allow them to be seen by anyone in the group before they get a notification. Where is the delay? Maybe there is a notification sent at a future date and time, but there is no delay in access to the announcement. This should be corrected or the feature renamed to "Email notification date."
