I have been accessing Canvas via Safari for nearly 2 years now and have never had a problem with it. Recently every time I access canvas using Safari, the dashboard page never loads and the module boxes appear as grey boxes as if they are loading. The website never fully loads and I cannot access my material that I need. This problem does not happen with Chrome. I use Safari as my default browser so could anyone please tell me how I could fix this and get back to using canvas on Safari. I understand chrome is the default browser for canvas, but having used safari for 2 years and never having a problem with it, it is annoying that it suddenly seems it is no longer usable to use safari for canvas.
Thanks.
First make sure you have the latest version of Safari. You probably already do, but just making sure.
Second, there have been some issues recently with changes that Canvas made. These issues seem to be across all browsers eventually. There may be something with these Canvas changes that are having that affect on the viewing in Safari.
it would be interesting to know if other safari users are seeing the same issue.
Not a solution for your dilemma, but maybe some insight. If you know someone else that can check it out, that would be worthwhile knowing if it is a "you" issue or an "us" issue.
Hello @CiaranCoyle,
Thank you for reaching out! I would recommend that you try clearing your cache and cookies. Website data and cookies can bog down the efficiency of our browser, so this could be the issue in your case. If you are not familiar with how to clear your cache and cookies for Safari, here are the instructions.
1. To clear your history and cookies, click on "Safari" on the top left side of the browser. (It's on the right side of the Apple Logo)
2. Move down the navigation bar and click on "Preferences".
3. Make sure that the "Privacy" tab was opened. If not, then click on "Privacy".
4. Click on "Manage Website Data" in the middle of the menu.
5. Lastly, click on "Remove All", then click on "Remove Now".
Once all of that is complete, close out of all your tabs, login back into Canvas, then try again.
Hopefully, that will solve your issue, but let us know if you need anything else.
I am having this same problem - have cleared cache and cookies and the problem remains... I have Safari 13.1.2, which I think is the most up to date. Any other advice here? I can use another browser but since I am using Safari for my other university work it would be ideal for Canvas to work on Safari, too, as it has in the past. Thank you.
This does NOT work! So, Canvas, it's not solved and shouldn't be marked as such.
On a separate note:
Please keep your aging LMS from turning totally unusable by upgrading it. For years now nothing significant has changed and Canvas is still cumbersome to use (too many steps to do get anything done). Years ago I used to submit ideas, but they all seemed to go into a pile and get pressed down so that they never got voted on. Your system suggests you don't really care about your users' needs. I could give you a list of things that would make Canvas much better, but I don't believe anyone in position would see it.
