Break Assessment Scores & Grades Out By 2 Custom Dimensions

Hi there Canvas Community!

When building assessments is there a way to break out assessment scoring and grades by two custom dimensions such as topic and skill/problem solving method?

I'm not sure I completely understand your question.  Are you wanting to have two separate assignment groups in Canvas...one for "topic and skill" and the other for "problem solving method" where you could weight assignments within those two assignment groups?  Or, are you asking about something else?  If you could please provide some more details about your question, I think that would be helpful...thank you.

Hey Chris!

So say I want to build out an assessment on Python:

• The topic would be Python
• The problem solving method/skills under the topic could be something like Basic Syntax and Language Fundamentals or Exception Handling

The data we'd want to see is:

• The percentage of everything encompassed within the Python topic (e.g. Basic Syntax and Language Fundamentals + Exception Handling)
• But then, at the problem solving method/skill level 
  • A percentage for Basic Syntax and Language Fundamentals
  • A percentage for Exception Handling

Where these could be used then to calculate uplift both at a topic level but at a skill level as well.

Hi @HeatherLuna,

You might be able to utilize Canvas Outcomes to assess the individual skill levels (and then look at reports for those skills for overall assessment), but there isn't really an automated way to roll up multiple outcomes (skills in your case) to a parent topic.  You could probably do some work with CSV exports in Excel or some other data reporting/visualization platform, but that would really be done outside of Canvas.
