Batch Editing the Discussion Settings

During the recent Canvas upgrade this summer, there appears to be some type of glitch that randomly adjusted my discussion settings.  Specifically, on about 2/3 of my discussions in each class- it has them listed as "Disallow threaded replies."  In the decades that I have taught online, I have never clicked this button, but now it appears I need to manually change this setting in about 18 different discussions questions in EACH of my courses.  (Discovered this after rolling over content from multiple courses!) Hours of work unless one of the amazing Canvas Gurus on here has a quick way to edit this particular setting in every discussion post within a course?

@ProfMcNamara - I don't exactly have a quick and easy solution for you with this but wanted to point out this blog about the issue you're describing with the "disallow threaded replies" setting: Disallow Threaded Replies option in Discussions. There are comments from many people there experiencing the same issue. There are some comments that mention being able to target discussions using Canvas Data 2 and the API (which may be an option if you can talk with your Canvas admin). I'm not tech savvy enough for that to be a solution for me. However, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably just open one of my courses, hold down the Control key (or Command if you're on a Mac) to open all of my discussions in their own tab, check to make sure it's not enabled, close the tab, and move to the next one.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and send me in the right direction.  I was throwing out the ole' Hail Mary hoping I was not facing hours of mindless clicking- but it appears that is what I am in for.  Thanks again, it is appreciated!

We sadly ran into this issue as well and had to simply manually edit then in each course individually. If there is a bulk method we would be all ears, but as of my knowledge there is not one available.

I am not only sad that you had to deal with this issue, I am sad that no bulk method appears to exist.  However, I greatly appreciate your reply and response.  Sometimes, misery loves company....
