There is obviously a technical glitch, but I am wondering if anyone else has had it. I had a student do a "mad scramble" to finish an assignment that was not assigned to her. We are on block schedules and before the break I had a random period that needed work, so I made an assignment. This student is not a part of that section. She had access to the assignment and submitted it. I verified two things:
1) Assignment was specifically ONLY assigned to 8th period.
2) This student is in 3rd period and that is the period that Canvas shows also.
This can be a huge issue with testing, so I won't be doing Canvas quizzes.
Solved! Go to Solution.
If she is enrolled in all of the Sections, then that definitely explains why she has access to the Quiz, even though the Quiz is assigned only to one section. So this is not a Canvas glitch, but rather an enrollment issue. The next question is: Why is she enrolled in all the sections? Do you manually enroll students, or are they enrolled by your SIS? If you manually enroll students - does your district permit you to change the student's section? If they are enrolled by your SIS, you'll need to dig a little deeper as to why.
Click on Help in the Global Navigation menu -- it's the last item. If your district pays for Canvas Support, you will see Chat options and toll-free options.
Have you made sure you're clicking the correct sections? Sometimes you click the wrong ones and you don't even notice.
Unfortunately, that is not it. 100% verified that it is some kind of technical fluke. Student is the only student in that section that did the assignment that the whole period was not assigned.
Well, this isn't very clear. I suggest you file a ticket with the Canvas Support Team.
This is very odd. I've never heard of a glitch like this. Is it possible the student is enrolled in both sections? (We have had that happen on rare occasions). Without being able to look at your course, it may be a little difficult for us to help you figure out the issue. Any chance there is more than one copy of the quiz/assignment?
And to clarify -- is this actually an Assignment? Or a Quiz? If a Quiz -- is it a Classic Quiz or New Quizzes Quiz. This is info you'll want to be ready with when submitting a ticket to Canvas Support. They will be able to help figure out the issue better since they can look at your course.
I opened the student's profile again and expanded it. It does show that she is enrolled in all of my sections. I have spent 10 minutes already looking for how to create a help ticket. No luck. I am very computer lit, though it doesn't sound like it. I even looked up support. All I got was an explanation on how to that tells you everything but "where to". How defunct!

Oh yeah! That was what I going to say.
