Canvas App Closing Files When Opening Other Apps

The last couple of months, the Canvas mobile app (I’m on iPad specifically) has been closing the files I’m viewing if I open another app or switch over to answer a text message. It didn’t used to do this. Previously, I was able to go from reviewing files to searching something on the internet to then go right back to the file I was working on. Now, every single time the Canvas app is put to the background (not closed, just shuffled), it closes the files and sends me back to the course homepage. This is so frustrating when I have school files that are dozens, if not hundreds, of pages long. It’s happening with PowerPoints, PDF’s, Assignments, and basically any page that isn’t a “homepage.” Attached is a file showing what I’m talking about, set up exactly how I have my screen while I’m working.
