ILP Colleague Display Name

ILP overwrites the display name in Canvas. I see an option under the app settings to "provision preferred name." However, when setting the preferred name in Colleague it does not appear to be passing back to Canvas but rather still overwriting with legal name. Does anyone have a solution for this? TIA

We use ILP and have the same setting, "provision preferred name," which has worked for us. I wonder where you are pulling that information for the preferred name? When we saw that the preferred name was not being pulled, we noticed the record did not have their preferred name in the correct field within Colleague.

Thank you so much for responding to me! I was able to find a different field that did pull the preferred name over, however, it is changing more than just the display name in Canvas, also the full and sortable name, is this the way it is functioning for you as well? Thank you!!

Yes, we have it updated in all areas, but we wanted the user's name to show the preferred names in all areas of Canvas. Additionally, we have it programmed so that a faculty roster (in Colleague) reflects the preferred name for the continuity of the student's identity and that faculty are not confused by a person on their roster that does not reflect in Canvas. The official transcripts, etc., do reflect the student's legal name. This programming for a student's preferred name was implemented before ILP was used and carried over with the transition to ILP.
