Chromebook stuck in MC Student

Student Chromebook (Dell 3100 2-in-1 touchscreen) repeatedly gets stuck in MC student and is unable to navigate out of the app, power off, or force quit. We tried swapping devices and same issue persists. The only thing i've found to get out of the app is pulling the battery and reconnecting it. This has happened to a couple other students in the past couple months, but not daily like what is happening with this student. Wanted to ask if this is a known issue and is there a fix? I'm not very familiar with MC student or settings within that app but can try any suggestions.
ChromeOS is updated. On the device we swapped for the student a few days ago, I performed OS recovery yesterday just to see if that would help prevent the problem but he is stuck again.
