Hi community! In case you missed my latest Project Update - July 22, 2022, I'll go ahead and introduce myself. I'm Allison Howell, a new product manager with Instructure. I wanted to put a call in for volunteers to chat with me and our team's product designer about some new designs we have been working on for student paces. This is a great opportunity to give your feedback before development starts, and it's also a chance for me to get to know you and your specific use case for Course Pacing better. You can sign up for a slot at our calendly link, or feel free to message me if you have any questions. I know it's back-to-school madness right now and every bit of time counts, but we'd love to get your input so we can continue to make Course Pacing better.
I'm looking forward to working with this group!
Hi @AllisonHowell , I'd be interested in having a chat and giving feedback on course pacing - this would be a really useful tool for our school. Unfortunately, we are based on the east coast of Australia, so the times available in your link are a bit prohibitive (2.30-6.30am). If you are able to do 9am AEST, I'd be more than happy to have a chat!
@patricia_lemos3 Certainly! I'm happy to accommodate your time zone. Apologies for leaving you out in the initial post. I'm more than happy to accommodate between 9 and 11 AEST. I'll get with you directly on setting that up.
Hi @AllisonHowell !
We are currently using Course Pacing to its fullest extent, but I'm having some issues with it not "sticking" for some students. For the most part, it's working in our courses (about 250). At times though one teacher's course won't apply due dates to the students. I've put in help desk tickets for the last month but still no resolution. Could we chat sometime soon? We are also using Grade Guardian which depends on due dates, so a fix for our issues would be so helpful!
@Stephenie_J It looks like we've got some time set up for this afternoon. Looking forward to hearing more about this.
Hi again! I actually figured out my issue and won't need to get on the call. I'll explain here though.
We've been using course pacing with blueprinting and it's been working really great. We started noticing that course pacing wasn't applying due dates to some courses and then just to some individual students in those courses. I kept checking the course pacing in the blueprint master and then in the individual courses. All was published and the dates were showing in each course (live, student courses and the master blueprint courses). I tried disassociating a course and publishing the course pacing and it didn't work. What we realized was we had to go in to the live, student course and publish section by section. It worked! I've been struggling with why it wasn't giving kids due dates for over a month! But, all is well. Just pass this along to any Course Pacing users.
In summary: If due dates are not showing for students, go into the live, student course, go to Course Pacing>Sections and look to the far-right to see if it says "Pace is new and unpublished." If so, publish that section and it should work!
Hi @AllisonHowell
I would love to have a chat with you about the course pacing feature and the options given the delivery model of our online courses - but your link doesnt work anymore(?). Students can join whenever they like, but exams are coordinated with campus students and so are held approximately every 6 months.
We have a custom app which currently allows students to set their own deadlines, but would love to use the course pacing feature to suggest a pace. So far I haven't found a way to do this without running the risk of giving bad suggestions (deadlines which will mean they have not completed obligatory tasks ahead of the last day they can enrol onto the exam).
Timezone wise, I'm based in Oslo, Norway.
