Last year I could unpublish a module and keep the assignments and everything else published (it would stay int he grade book, etc). Now I can only unpublish the module and all items and the assignment erases from the gradebook. Is there a way to just unpublish a module so that way students don't need to see everything after a chapter is over? (kind of start a clean slate)

You are correct. I had not noticed that this option was removed. You should still be able to use the 'unpublish module and all items' and then publish individual module items again. Although I can see that would take a lot more time if your modules contain many items. My guess would be that you will need to create an idea in the Canvas Community and submit a request to add the feature to unpublish the module only.
Hi @cynthia_klabo you should be able to click on a small arrow next to the publish icon to the right of a module title. When clicking the arrow, you should see an option to unpublish the module only. Please see the following link for more details: Publish/unpublish modules. Assignments with grades cannot be unpublished. You can always see unpublished assignments in your gradebook by clicking the settings icon at the upper right > select the 'View Options' tab and check 'Unpublished Assignments' in the Show section. Save the new setting and you will be able to see unpublished assignments in your gradebook. Students will not see unpublished assignments even if you check the option in the settings.
Beside the arrow does not have the option to unpublish just the module anymore. I wish!! It did last year, but they changed it for some reason. Is there a way to get that option back?
The only options now are :
- publish module only
- publish module and all items
- unpublish module and all items.

Modules are just a presentation/grouping method, right? Why so much dependency built in??
