searching for courses with embedded student mentors added to the course

We have had embedded student mentors in our science engineering and math courses. We need to find out what courses these mentors were in but there is no role assigned to them. Is there a way to find these courses and mentors with in the canvas system. is there a role they could be assigned to that has no ability to access grades but can see into the course but also does not affect the students ability to be in courses of their own as a student using the Pearson math curriculum.  we have had thar issue in the past assigning a mentor role.  How would this be searched?

Thank you for posting on the Instructure Community!

I recommend creating a custom role at the account-level called mentor, and base it off of either the TA or designer role. You are able to fully customize what these roles can access, including if they can see grades, manage assignments, quizzes and pages (and if so, which they can edit if not all of them), and other things like that.

From there, once you enroll those users into the course, when you open Admin and search people, there is a drop-down box that allows you to search by role, and all the people with that role will appear. You can then click on that person's name, and you can see all the courses and groups they are enrolled in, and what role they have in each of those courses (whether its mentor or something else).

We have to role established but we had an issue with an old role that blocked a student from doing classwork in pearson math and had to change the role to a new role with slightly different permissions. This solved the student issue but now the old role does not exists for a people search.  Is there a way in the courses search to find the courses that had mentors?

The short answer is no. The courses tab specifically does not provide you with a functionality to search up all courses that have mentors in them. You are only able to filter out courses that do not contain any student enrollments, and you can also search courses by teacher. However, if the mentor role isn't created based off of the teacher role, it likely will not be listed there.

I wonder if there is a way to look back in time and find these student mentors in courses as far back as 2023?
