menu disappears after inserting equation

When I use the equation editor in the Canvas discussion board to insert an equation with LaTex and say Done, the reply form returns without the menu above (i.e., nothing at all). That means if I want to insert another equation or underline text, etc, I first have to save the reply and then edit it. That could mean 5 or more times that an incomplete response gets posted.
Any ideas or thoughts on this?

Hi @DarenCline,
I just tried this using my institution's Canvas instance and did not have the issue you describe. I was able to insert a latex equation via the equation editor and still access the RCE menu right afterwards. It seems like you may be having either a browser issue, or perhaps your institution has some kind of CSS/JavaScript customization in place that is not working correctly and causing the menu to disappear. I'd suggest bringing this up to your school/institution Canvas team (usually in the eLearning / IT / Digital Education areas) to see if they can assist you with this. Unfortunately, the community here isn't as likely to help with this particular issue because none of us have access to your Canvas instance or course.
I hope this reply at least confirms things are functioning "normally" for others.
