Could you please give us some more information about your question? Are you an instructor or a student? If you are an instructor, are you trying to upload a file somewhere in your course? Or, if you are a student, are you trying to upload a file as part of an assignment submission? Something else? If you could please provide more details about your question, that would be great. Thanks.
I am an instructor and I am trying to learn how to copy part of a file and transport that into a second file.

I still do not understand exactly what you are trying to do. copying part of a file to another file is not something that would be done in Canvas
As for uploading files, there should be a files navigation link for each course. Clicking on it will take you to the files area for the course where you can upload files by dragging and dropping.
You also have your own personal files area accessible by clicking on your profile icon.
