Hi @ThomasHefner,
Under the filters button in the Gradebook, if your local Canvas team set things up "properly" (in quotes because it's probably debatable), you should see an option for Grading Periods, and once you select that you should see 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, etc... That would likely be the easiest way to have the gradebook show things for the quarter you are in. If you don't see that option, it means your local admins didn't set up the grading periods for some reason, and you'd probably need to reach out to them to find out if that was an intentional change or if someone just missed a step in their Canvas setup for this year and could go back and fix it.
Hope this bit of extra info helps.

The Gradebook recently underwent some changes. Please describe what actions you are looking to perform in the gradebook and we can try to help you do that with the new look.
I used to be able to change the gradebook to only show 2nd quarter grades, once 2nd quarter started. That was done by changing the quarter to 2nd quarter under "Views." Without Views I do not see any way to show grades for a different marking/grading quarter. It seems I could also do that with Assignments as well and only show assignments for a particular quarter and not the entire course.
There is an option in Filters on the gradebook to indicate the start and end date for filtering assignments. While a bit different and requires you to provide the start and end date for a quarter, it would provide the ability to filter for a given quarter. Once set, it generally stays set until you remove the filter (at least it does when I filter for sections).
I was afraid that was going to be the answer. It feels like features have been removed and not added which is the opposite of how software development should go. That is doable but more work on my end and I have to remember all these dates now.
This is a nice feature but it would be nice to have what was there on top of this new Filter option.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I agree that such a filter is valuable. I cannot say why it was changed. Might I suggest submitting an idea to have it reinstated. You might even have ideas for how to improve it to be more efficient (YAY!). Definitely look to make sure it has not already been submitted first, and if it has and you have ideas for making it better, submit your idea and add a link to the already submitted one. Instructure may combine them if similar enough rather than keeping them separate.
Will this also only compute the grades (I do category grades) for the dates selected (2nd Quarter) or will the category grades and overall course grade show the averages going back to day 1 of the course?
I just applied the date filter and the Gradebook is only showing the assignments for the date range but the overall averages and category averages seem to be computed for the entire course and not just the 2nd quarter, which is my date range.
I'm going to guess not based on your test. I have not used this feature on my end. Another reason to submit an idea with your suggestions for how to make it work best.
I have a workday tomorrow so maybe I will have time to submit this. Thanks for your help with this.
Glad to discuss it. I can understand it being frustrating to lose a feature you used. Thankfully, Instructure is pretty willing to work on improvements and this seems like one a bit easier to implement than others. I wish I had a better answer for you.
Well at least you have an honest answer without the spin. That I appreciate.

I'll pass this along to the IT folks at my school and hopefully it gets pushed up the ladder.
After begging and cajoling for almost a month the filter is now set. 25+ high schools in the county and over 100+ schools total with thousands of teachers and one person has the ability to fix this omission and that person was on leave for some time. But taken care of as of today. Thanks for all the help for those that posted.
Glad to hear that it got worked out.
