Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!

I looked back and saw that there are 2 separate posts on this topic from 2023 and it appears that the issue still has not been resolved.
An import today, with adjusted due dates, resulted in an email going out to 350+ students notifying them that an assignment due in April received a "0%". This cause a lot of confusion, stress, and questions, not to mention a lot of work on the instructors end trying to calm the students down.
Please bring attention to imported assignments being automatically assigned "0%" in the gradebook despite a "future date" also being adjusted. I copy courses and course materials all the time and have never seen this happen (even with "past dates" being imported) and when I was on with support, was told they are aware of the issue:
"Canvas Support: We have seen couple of cases like that where the assignment is imported with dates that are from previous semesters (because of the original course where the assignment is imported from). Assignment is imported with those past dates and automatic grading for missing submission takes place hence the due date for that assignment is past (because it has the past dates from the import)"
- once the dates are adjusted, why aren't the "0%" removed?
This leads me to believe that it is occurring at random for some reason and that Canvas is aware but has not addressed it.

I had a teacher ask me about this exact thing this week. I sent him this information, but I don't know why it happens in the first place.
Thank you! Yes, and it's a known issue to Canvas so I am unclear as to why they allow it to continue to happen. It causes a lot of stress amongst the students and instructors, not to mention all the emails the instructors now must reply to as well as the time it takes to go through and edit every single student's grade back. This was brought up almost 18 months ago in 2023 by 2 separate individuals and the issues have still not been resolved. I am hoping that they will fix this as the Canvas rep I was on with basically stated that it's "random".
I would recommend removing the dates altogether. Shifting the dates simply doesn't work that well. Holidays and breaks always cause problems. Setting up new dates is not that difficult. Just go to Assignments, click on the 3 dots, and choose "Edit Assignment Dates."
I always have with all imported assignments: however, this is a known issue with Canvas (since 2023) where it randomly assigns "0%" to all students despite date adjustments, etc. I have never experienced this occurring despite the numerous courses and assignments I have copied and imported. Changing the dates does not do anything: the 0% stays in the gradebook and it sends a notification to ALL students that they have been given a 0% on a future assignment.
