I imported a prior course's data into my upcoming course.
The old course had three old/classic-style quizzes. They were the older type; when I last taught this course--spring 2021--Lockdown Browser was not supported for the new quiz.
It appears Lockdown Browser now works with the new quizzes. Therefore, when I imported the old-course data, I checked the box to convert quizzes to the new format.
What ended up happening is the quizzes got stuck in some status that said that the import is still processing. When the processing finally got done, I see this error in my Assignments page:
Oops! Something went wrong importing "[name of quiz]"
[Cancel]
Is this expected? What can I do to assure the quizzes get imported, other than to not convert them to the new-quiz format?

Hi @arencambre
This indicates there was an issue with the import process for the quizzes.
There are a few things you can try.
I would advise you to try and import the quizzes to your course as classic quizzes, and once you have them in your course, you can migrate them to new quizzes.
You can do that by either selecting specific content in an import

Or you can try to do a direct share
How do I copy a quiz to another course?
Once the quiz is imported to the course, you can migrate it into new quizzes

Another alternative would be to export the quizzes you have in the course and import the QTI package to a new quiz you have created in the course.
Here is a guide on how to export the quizzes

I hope you will have a great day. Thank you.

Confirmed: Importing the quizzes and not checking the box to convert to new quizzes solved it. I was then able to migrate the old quiz to the new-quiz format.
Things Canvas should check up on:
I just wanted to update this for people like me - I'm new to Canvas LMS this year (2024) and have wasted hours over the last two days trying to import a quiz in QTI format. I kept getting the same error message: "Oops! Something went wrong importing [quiz name]." The only option I had from there was to cancel the quiz upload.
I used multiple QTI generators including the one from the New York Institute of Technology that includes the syntax error check.
I finally succeeded at creating my quiz by unchecking the box to convert to new quizzes (which was checked by default). It's been 2.5 years since this thread and it seems Canvas still hasn't solved this problem.
To import a QTI file into New Quizzes, you can use the importer inside New Quizzes Build view rather than the course import tool. How do I import a quiz from a QTI package in New Quizzes?
In case anyone else is running into this issue, I was having the same problem when I had been able to successfully import QTI files as New Quizzes previously. I was using the New York Tech text to QTI converter and it said I had no syntax errors. I tried another converter (https://unctext2qti-dept-its-tl.apps.cloudapps.unc.edu/) and it discovered syntax errors the NYT version did not (I was missing the number for each question). I fixed the syntax errors in the UNC version of the converter and exported that, and that worked! I was able to upload these in the import course content section and it added them as New Quizzes.
