I often want students to complete assignments that I can use as formative checks or as step one of a larger project. They are submitting something, so I can't choose "not graded" when setting up the assignment since this gets rid of the submission options. However, when I set it to 0 points and a complete/incomplete grade, students see that it doesn't have value and sometimes choose not to do it. I want to de-emphaszie the importance of grade negotiations in my class and put the focus on learning. Being able to hide to point value of assignments would really help me do this, so students stop viewing anything not factoring into the final grade as "optional." Thank you!
In the Grades, you can choose to hide the grades for the activity. It will still have a due date and be 'mandatory' but students won't see their scores. To do this, open Grades and click the '3-dot' menu for the column and choose "Hide Grades".
This doesn't hide the point value from the students though. There's no way to hide that, but hiding the grades may be enough?

Doesn't the hide grades option also hide the instructor's qualitative comments though?
It would be nice to have an option that allows students to submit something and get instructor feedback, but not have it be worth points.
