How are students uploading documents when it's not allowed?

Typically the only option I give students is the text box entry option yet students are still somehow uploading documents.

How to I prevent this?

The Text box uses the Rich Content Editor (RCE) which includes the ability to "insert links, images, media, and documents."   I don't think there is any way to block students from using the tools in the RCE.    Perhaps it's a matter of writing very explicit instructions for the assignment that you will only accept typing that is done in the text box (and that they are welcome to copy and paste from their document, but that you don't want an upload or link).

It's unfortunate that I can't turn off that option.  Downloading assignments across 100 students means my computer is overloaded and/or I have to waste time deleting them all after they are graded.

Unfortunately my writing in large fonts with bold and underlining stating I only want links means nothing to about a handful of students per class.

Are they supposed to type something into the RCE that includes links to other documents, or are they supposed to submit ONLY a link to a separate document?

If the latter, why not use the Submission Type: Online: Website URL option?

Thanks, I suppose I could but they often need to submit multiple links so I thought the text box option was the best option.  

But maybe I'll try that.
