I would like to be able to see more assignments and more students on one page. Unfortunately, the names of students are so big that I can only see 20 students at once. It's a rare class that has only 20 students.
Similarly, I can only see 6 assignments on my page. Again, this is because the columns of assignments are enormous. I would like an option to make the columns narrower so I can see more.
@mofroerer ...
I understand that you'd like to be able to see more assignments and more students on your Grades page all at one time. You actually have it a bit better than I do on my own Windows 11 laptop. I can only see 14 students, but I can see seven assignments. I imagine that the reason you are only able to see six assignment names is based on the length of your assignment names. On the Grades page, have you tried placing your mouse cursor between two assignment names (on the cell line) to adjust the column widths? This would allow you to see a few more assignment name columns all on one screen. Another option for you might be to use the zoom in/out feature option within your browser. For example, you can press the keyboard combo "Ctrl+" or "Ctrl-" to zoom in our out. Similarly, you could adjust your computer's screen resolution in the OS (Operating System) display settings.
This Guide will show you how to adjust those assignment columns in your Grades page:
How do I arrange columns in the Gradebook? - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com) ... look for the "Resize Columns" section near the bottom.
I hope this will help a bit. Sing out if you have any other questions...thanks!
Even if accessibility is the root issue here, which I don't understand how it could be, but I could easily be wrong, there should be an option to not have the top third of the viewing area be wasted space. It should be customizable. This issue has bothered me for years, and I don't know how more people don't express any more desire to have that feature changed.
I think a more probable reason that it is only a fraction of the screen is that it was programmed at a point in time when computers has a lower resolution, so when you view it on a computer with a higher resolution the viewing area is the same amount of pixels, which means it is a smaller area.
That is extremely helpful! I don't love that it makes every Canvas page small, but I can live with going back and forth. I've adjusted my assignment columns, but I kind of like them all the same width. Still, making it smaller definitely helps. Thank you!
