Connecting Canvas to an existing Microsoft Teams site

I am building a new Canvas site for a training community for student employees and want to connect it to an existing Microsoft Team that we are already using.  The instructions for Canvas/Teams integration suggest that the Canvas site will create a new Teams site, but that's not helpful in my situation because we already have a LOT of content built out in our current Teams environment.

Is there any way for me to connect the NEW Canvas site to and EXISTING Teams site?

Hello @KarenMcLeer - to try and help I went into the Microsoft Teams technical guides to look for a hidden secret method to use an existing Teams site when setting the app up the Teams app with a Canvas course. Unable to find one I then considered the possibility of copying elements of the existing Teams site into the new site that has the linkage with the Canvas course. To do that I would open both sites in SharePoint on separate monitors and then use the available copy tools to copy the directories, files, etc.
