Hi folks, it looks like Scott the Magnificent has already created us a CanvasHacks public classroom to play in, and enrolled us as teachers.
Any thoughts on structure? I have a similar course that is mostly complete that I am preparing for my faculty that I could upload to provide a bit of structure. It is intended for non-coders, and has the following module structure:
However, I am not a pushy sort, so whatever anybody else wants, I am more than happy to go along with. I can always upload stuff a piece at a time and fit it where I can.
My "lessons" are all one page, and include:
Let me know what your think!
Oh yah, and I also have a hokey Home page, because that's just the kind of guy I am:)
Solved! Go to Solution.
Great idea, Kelley.
I created a course shell in resources.instructure.com. It looks like well over 60 people have already requested either student or teacher level access. Those of you with teacher level access, feel free to invite your friends. Anyone else interested, please comment to that effect. @kmeeusen and the super helpful @Ron_Bowman have been great about going in and inviting folks.
Thanks
Scott
DM me in this community with your first and last names and your email address, and I will enroll you.
Kelley
For anyone that is still looking for these resources (@StephanieNg @g0nicba @Nhadley12 ), I found the following blog post from @kmeeusen: Free for Teachers Fun & CanvasHacks Demo Course In the blog post, it is mentioned that @kmeeusen publicly shared these resources in Canvas Commons with the course name "Do Not Fear the Code!" According to the blog post it has the same content that is available in the CanvasHacks course.
I was able to find this in Canvas Commons and added it to my own Sandbox course for quick access.
@kmeeusen Can you please invite me to the canvas hacks classroom? My email is tina.powers@hsutx.edu
Done!
Thanks Scott!
How do you access? I didn't get an email, and it's not in my list. Wow, I am not feeling smart.
Tina:
I just resent your invitation. It would go to this email address (if like me you have a half-dozen or more) blahblahblah@hsutx.edu
KLM
Yes, that is the one I am checking. and I still don't have it. Sorry this is a pain.
You could try this one: tmp06a@acu.edu
but it is not the one I use with Canvas, so don't know if that is a problem in and of itself.
t
Yes, I am not getting these. Maybe try tmp06a@acu.edu<mailto:tmp06a@acu.edu>?
But, that is not the email I use with Canvas, so not sure of the ramifications….
Tina
Done Tina!
Since CanvasHacks does not reside in your school's Canvas instance, the only ramification I would anticipate it you will be asked to create an account at Resources.Instructure where it does reside.

I am in! Thank you, Kelley.
I am in. thank you!
Totally Awesome, @kmeeusen I love watching stuff like this take off organically. Thank you for getting the ball rolling. You the the Kommunity Kudos award this morning!
I am so excited to check this out! Would you please add me as a student?
Thank you!

Hi Kelley,
Could you add me as a student?
Thanks,
Jaap Stelpstra
Done!
Jaap:
Please shoot me your email address, and I will get you enrolled.
klm
Scott already enrolled me, thanks!
Kelley-
I am having a major brain fart and cannot find the Canvas Hacks Classroom course. How do I get to it? I know I am a member.
Thanks,
Heidi
@heidi1 , here's the link to the course - https://resources.instructure.com/courses/443
Thanks Kona!
Enrollment is booming in that class!
May I please be added to your CanvasHacks course as a teacher. It sounds great. My email is rkelley@miracosta.edu. Thank you, Robert.
@rkelley1 - Done!
Thanks for adding me. It was a little confusing when I went to add the course, because I was asked if I wanted to login with my Canvas account (which I have), but it didn't work! Turned out I needed to create an entirely new Canvas account to access the CanvasHacks course. I'm in now, and appreciate having been added. Thanks!
Please add me as a teacher to the course shell in resources.instructure.com. My e-mail address is maguire@kth.se. Thanks.
Ronals:
It is, I am thinking, on the Canvas Network - Scott made it for us.
I will send you an invite.
Hi Kelley, I would like to be added to the course as well!
Thanks!
Done!
Hi Scott. I should know this but temporary brain freeze.
I am getting lots of inbox notifications from the Canvas course from people wanting to join the Hacks course which to be honest I am just deleting. What I am waiting for is notification when people add points to the discussions. Is there a way to hide/block the 'request for access' notifications but keep the ones that might happen for any discussions?
Cheers, Gid
Hey Gideon,
No worries on deleting those requests. There are something like 500 people in there now and momentum seems to be continuing up and to the right. As for a way to control notifications in a way that is specific to a given course, you cannot (although there is a popular feature idea for that). It looks like you have the Invitations notification preference set to daily digest. Scanning your notifications via the admin console it looks like you are getting notifications in your daily digest when others join the course. Is this what you are referring to or are you getting notifications asking you to specifically approve certain enrollment requests?
I don't mind the daily summary but I am also getting this every time a request is made? This is the bit I could do with stopping?
Sorry Scott :O(
@GideonWilliams , have you tried "stop following" for this specific discussion/question?
Below is a screen shot that shows if you navigate to this discussion in the Community, click on the "Following" link, you'll see a "Stop Following" link. You should be able to click on this and then click the Done button. As far as I'm aware if you do this you will stop getting information from this specific post. Hope this helps!
Ronald:
Shoot me your email address in a private message so that I can invite you into the course.
Kelley,
Is it possible to be add to this course I would with K12 Teachers and I am looking for resources that I could use that helps to explain how they can use the HTML Code inside of Canvas?
Robert
Robert:
Use the private message feature in the Community to send me your email address, and I will get you a course invite.
Kelley
Hi Kelley,
Can you do the same for me? I tried sending you a private message, but I can't since you are not a connection.
Kelly-
I would like to be added to your Canvas Hacks Classroom, but can't figure out how to send you a private message. One of us is not approved to do something, as every time I put your email in the send message box, it puts a red exclamation point next to it.
Heidi
Heidi:
You just need to choose to follow me, then you can send me a private message. I am doing it this way so that folks' email addresses aren't plastered all over the community for any stalker or vendor (same things) to access.
Hope this helps, and as soon as I get your email, I will enroll you.
