Hi Canvaseers. I am working on two different implementations of Canvas. In one, the content window stretches to 100% of the remaining space available in the browser window, but in the other, stops around the 75% mark (pls see screenshots below). I've seen this issue responded to elsewhere: Screen Width Issue but wondered if there is a way for me to make the content area wider through Admin UI settings rather than putzing with the CSS? I should point out that this is true across the entire implementation - not just on the Modules page.

Hello @adarsh ...
I think I have a much easier solution for you that doesn't involve any CSS modifications. Assuming that you are an admin for your Canvas environment (for the bottom screen shot), go to your account "Settings" page, and then click on the "Feature Options" tab. Underneath the "Account" heading, there will be a bunch of toggle switches. Find the one for "New User Tutorial". I'm assuming you have this turned off. After you turn it on, return to your Dashboard and then view content within a course. You should see most pages (Discussion topics are the exception here for some reason) should span the entire width of your screen.
Hope this helps!
Hi @adarsh ,
I have the same issue as you and very interested to see what the answer might be (besides what Kona provided).
Hi ysmalls - @Chris_Hofer 's solution worked for me. I had to turn off the new user tutorial and turn it back on but it did exactly what it was supposed to. My content area is now extended all the way out to the right side of the browser window.
Hi @adarsh ,
Thanks for the update! IT WORKED FOR ME TOO!!!!!
Thanks @Chris_Hofer this was a bit of a pain but I lived with it. Funny how excited I get with a bit more space in my Canvas LOL.

Thanks, @Chris_Hofer ! Unfortunately, no dice. I turned on New User Tutorials as you suggested but the content stills stops short of the full page width.
Well shoot! Do you have any custom CSS in your global CSS file that would be overriding that setting? I re-confirmed that the "New User Tutorial" is the toggle switch that does affect the page width...strange as that may seem.
@Chris_Hofer , your Canvas Fu is strong. I turned off the New User Tutorial and turned it back on and voila, full screen! Thanks much!
Can you help me correct this problem? It wasn't like this before. I want to remove the frame in area so my slides and docs and whatever fills the square and isn't cut off. When I open Canvas on my projector to show the kids there is a black border above and below anything I have added into the page I've created. I want to remove that so it fills the entire square and will be larger on my screen.
I tried to upload an image but I'm not sure if it worked. It says I don't have permission to add the image.
Good morning, @DonnaDKing ...
Unfortunately, I don't have as much experience with slides like you are showing and how to remove those black bars on the top and the bottom. However, I am sure there are others here in the Community that have had better luck with this...so I'll let them chime in. Hopefully you'll get a response soon...good luck!
I went thru the steps on how to make a wider content screen as you listed here. However, what should I do if I don't see the 'Account' heading? Or am I in the wrong place?
@minapuey ...
You need to be an administrator for your school's Canvas environment. The screenshot you provided looks to be from within your own course...not a screenshot at the Canvas account level. If you are using the Free For Teacher (FFT) version of Canvas, you may not have this option. If you are using a paid Canvas environment, you'll need to have a conversation with your school's Canvas administrator or someone from their Online Learning / eLearning / Distance Learning department. You can find out if this is a setting they would be willing to change...or at least investigate for you. It would affect all courses within the account, so keep that in mind that it wouldn't just affect your course(s). Good luck!
Do the new faculty complain about the User Tutorial? It seems like the way to turn if off (the right arrow) is pretty non-intuitive.
