Canvas won't load unless I refresh over and over again and even then my to do list never loads and everything takes longer than it should. I have tried contacting the help desk and restarting my computer.

Have you made sure your browser is up to date? Have you tried clearing your cache? If you share what browser and type of device you are using, someone here may be able to give you more explicit instructions for those tasks.
Also check your wi-fi connection because a weak signal could cause slow loading even if it otherwise seems to be working well.
Are you using Safari? I have no personal experience but have read here that Canvas and Safari don't always play well together. If you are using Safari, maybe try a different browser such as Chrome or Firefox.
Are you an experienced Canvas user or new to the course? If you have used Canvas successfully in the past, you may want to consider one-off possibilities, such as bad weather at your server location. Just a thought.

I have tried both making sure my browser is up to date and clearing my cache. The signal is strong. The type of device I'm using is an imac but I don't know the series.

I'm using Chrome and I am a experienced Canvas user. It might be weather related but my friend who also attend here and is using canvas in the same room as me is able to connect. It seems to just be my device alone.
