Is it possible for Canvas to send an automatic notice to students who exceed an instructor-determined absence threshold?
For example, imagine that a student has missed 4 classes. Is there a way to tell Canvas to email all students with 4 or more absences, preferaby with a message I tell it to send?
I'm an instructor, if that wasn't already clear.
Thank you!
Hi @VincentOliveri,
This is not something that is natively available in Canvas. You could work with your institution's Canvas team and/or IT Department to develop something that works for you (and your faculty peers).
If you want Instructure to consider implementing this, you should submit this as an idea in the Community so that others can vote for it.
As an FYI, the idea submission process is going to be changing.

Hi Vincent,
It's possible to message students (manually) that score less then ___ by using the Roll Call tool. After enabling and using the tool,Find the column in the grade center, then select "Message students who" -> then select "Scored less then" from the drop down. Enter a cut off value (say 50 percent) It will populate those that meet the criteria, you can then expand the list to see who those students are. Enter your message and send!

Thanks for mentioning that possibility, @AMye1. I had also considered it but (based on the wording in their question) I believe @VincentOliveri is looking for something that is more automated/automatic or triggered when the absentee threshold occurs.
@VincentOliveri, if the feature @AMye1 mentioned is something you are interested in using, check out the How do I send a message to students from the Gradebook? - Instructure Community - 741 support article.
