[Bug] How do I add a To-Do widget to my home screen?

This may also be a newly introduced bug -- but after searching for ages, I cannot seem to locate where to report these.
I own a Samsung phone and I'm trying to add the To-Do Canvas widget to my home screen. The process I take is:
Tap and Hold screen -> Widgets -> Canvas -> Canvas To Do
When I do this, a dialogue box asking for the Light version or Dark version comes up with an additional checkbox below that says "Hide details on Widget".
The checkbox is perfectly responsive, but the Light and Dark buttons do not have any touch-input reactions whatsoever. This means that no matter what, I cannot get past this screen and actually add the widget. This applies to all the Android canvas widgets.
In fact, the only way I can add a Canvas widget to my homes creen is to perform a one to one data transfer from my other Samsung phone (which has the widget already on the home screen) to a factory reset phone.
Is there a workaround for this?
