Re-enroll into a dropped course through catalog

So I have a student who enrolled in a course through catalogue.  They then dropped the course b/c they didn't think they needed it. (it's a lab safety course, non credited).  They realized that they indeed do now need the course.  The professor sent them the link again and when the student tried to enroll it says  "There was an error processing your enrollment".  I see the student on the list of enrolled students when I check it.  Is there a way to remove the student so he can re-enroll?  Or what do I do?

How did they drop the course from Catalog? If they did, they would be able to enroll? If they dropped from Canvas, then they wouldn't be able to and they will need a listing/course or section just for them to enroll in the course.

I'm not sure. I've asked the student, I believe he dropped it using the button, but I'm not sure.  The course is a self enrolling course, so I went into the course and went to the People on the Nav bar.  I got the list of students and I saw that this guy was listed twice which I was thinking was the issue.  So, I clicked the ... and removed him (I think trashcan).  I had him try to enroll again.  I'm not the owner of the course, not sure if that makes a difference, I do have admin rights.

I'm waiting to see if he is able to.

I asked him to have his instructor send him the link to the course again.

Did I screw it up?

I would masquarade as that person in Canvas to see if they have the drop course button in their course.

Shoot I don't know how to do that.  He's no longer listed as enrolled in the course b/c I removed him from the list. He no longer has the course on his dashboard.

I just sent him a note to have his instructor send him the link to see if he can enroll.  The student is hard to get in touch with, so I keep having to wait for his reply.

In the future though, the person needs to go in and drop the course using the drop button.  And if they do that, then they'd be able to easily enroll again right?  I'm just trying to learn for going forward.   Again this is a non credited, free course.

They need to drop the course from Catalog to be able to re-enroll in the course.
