Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
We are looking at possibly adding student authentication for our online courses. We've looked at SmarterID and like what we've seen. Is anyone using it or any other authentication services for online students that isn't tied to a proctoring service?
We use BioSig-ID, but it doesn't use facial recognition like SmarterID. It uses gesture biometrics and is basically a password that has to be drawn by the same person every time.
Is it accessible for those students who cannot use a mouse?
There are two levels of accessibility settings - it can be set to ask security questions (for students who are still able to type or use voice-to-text), or it can be bypassed entirely if necessary.
Thank you, @tdelillo . I appreciate the feedback! I haven't had much luck finding competition to SmarterID.
We are doing a pilot with 4 classes starting July 2nd. More later.
@burgess_o - any feedback yet on your SmarterID pilot?
Project had to be postponed. We hope to try again in fall sessions. I had some questions about the integrations that were not answered in time for project to start. Thought it best to allow more time to troubleshoot.
Thanks for the update. I also looked at a demo of Examigo from Examity. It uses a smartphone to use biometrics to authenticate at the course level and for quizzes, discussions, etc within the course. There was a slight hiccup during the demo, but it uses similar tech. I'm still curious to see how well SmartID works. I really liked the demo and premise behind it.
