[ARCHIVED] Revise and resubmit assignment

I wish to create a "revise and resubmit" assignment. A student can rewrite an essay and submit it as a new assignment (preserving the original assignment and its grade). So my question is: is it possible to set up a new assignment, then have its grade be averaged with the evaluation on the original assignment?

It would look something like this:

Assignment 01: What happened in the 1940s?... 10 points

Assignment 01 Revise and Resubmit: What happened in the 1940s? Rewrite ...10 points

The two grades would then be automatically averaged together in the Gradebook.

Is this possible to do in Canvas?

This is currently not possible in Canvas.

What I do with two-part assignments is create a two-part rubric. Grade first submission with Part A, and second submission with Part B. The rubrics sum the the two amounts, but do not average. You could get tricky with your math on criteria amounts, though, but seems like a lot of work.

Or, you could suggest this a feature enhancement in Idea Conversations in this community.

Thanks for the advice on this one! I have a similar issue regarding anonymity and grading revisions. We have students turn in a paper, get comments and a grade and then they turn back in a rewrite of the paper. If we use the anonymous grading function on Canvas, it unblinds the student when we give them the first grade. So, we then know who the student is for the rewrite. We'd like to keep the re-write anonymous as well.

Anyway, we are looking for solutions to this issue. Thanks for your assistance!
