Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
We are trying to set up our online examinations and I need to know some technical facts about Canvas Quizzes (new version)
At what point are student allocated the questions from the question bank equivalent?
Allow me to explain.
The lecturers have created a quiz where the student will randomly receive 5 questions (e.g.ABCDE), but have up to 24hrs to complete.
The idea is the student start the quiz see the 5 random questions, then go away answer them on paper. Photograph calculation sheets / workings out and then return to the quiz to upload the images.
Therefor the students must see the same questions when they return. (ABCDE)
However since they are not interacting with the quiz to enter values etc until the second time is there a guarantee they see the same questions
My testing implies that if the student is completing a MCQ or a couple of other types and enter values the same questions appear. But if I don’t interact with the quiz I see different questions say FGHIJ questions
We don't want students to get different questions.
We're worried that students might get different questions.
so does anyone know
1. when are questions allocated?
2. does this remain the same if students don't interact?
thanks
What if you made the first, non random question, the student's name? Once they opened the quiz and filled in this field, the quiz would now be fixed in time ad space, as far as the random questions are concerned, right?
We can't have student name or any identifier in the quiz as it has to be marked anonymously as I had though of this solution too.
I am still waiting on Instructure support to state when students are allocated the questions and whether it is set.
They closed my call as I hadn't responded but I was on leave and they should have got an out of office
thanks for idea
My experience is that as long as you don't have a time limit on the exam, when the student returns to an exam after closing the web browser, they have the option to resume the exam and the questions have not changed.
You can test your setup with the test student.
Considering @gcollins1 idea, you could ask any random question. It doesn't have have to be a name. You could ask their course section, the name of their instructor, what is 2+2, whatever...
Yes. Or the teacher's name...
