Is there a way to insert deductions in the final grade?

In the class I am teaching each unexcused absence must deduct a percentage of the final grade. I would like to make this process automatic through Canvas.

You could create an assignment worth 0 points, and give them negative points on that assignment for their absences.  Or if you're using Roll Call to track attendance, you could account for it that way.

I thought of that, but I am not sure it would work.

The class has several groups of assignments and exams, with different weights; so weighting this negative grades would be confusing.

The calculations from Roll Call are also different from the ones we need at this class.

Maybe there is not a way to do that, so we will insert the deductions only in the last moment, when giving the final grades to the University System.
