[ARCHIVED] Can I read the message in a notification?

I get notified if a student sent me a message but in order to read it I have to log in to Canvas. This is strange. Imagine if I got a text message from my operator every time I received a telephone call or SMS and had to log in somewhere to read it. The message should be visible in the notification. I don't need to be able to answer but this way I can choose if it is urgent or if I can wait with the log in process and answering. Does anyone know if this is possible?

The way that the Notifications are designed in Canvas is just that, a notification.  It is not designed to give you the entire message.  It is simply designed to let you know that you have activity in Canvas.

There was a request from similar functionality in Canvas a few years ago https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/2045 but it did not get the community support needed to move forward.

Since the link goes to a cold file not accessible to everyone I would like to take up this again. Maybe the time and the user group and the user needs have changed over the last few years? For me, used to communicate with messenger and such, this is really old fashioned and cumbersome with many unnecessary steps just to read something. With the message included in the notification, I can see it even on my smartwatch and know if I have to answer or if it can wait. The system we used to have before Canvas always had this functionality.
