class.sourcedId / lineItem.sourcedId issues with Grade Sync (PowerSchool)

Hi, is anybody encountering intermittent Grade Sync issues that involve a line that looks similar to:

"The specified lineItem.sourcedId value 'XXXXX' is not valid."

"The specified class.sourcedId value 'XXXXX' is not valid."

We use PowerSchool SIS in North Carolina in my district.

If I do a Remaster Grade Passback the issues do disappear, but it is becoming common enough that I'm getting support tickets about it. Before I put in a SIS escalation ticket, I'd like to solicit any feedback or ideas on why it's happening or if anybody else is also seeing these errors.

I also can't find it in the SIS Error Code dictionary under PowerSchool so it's also hard to find a solution I can point people to.

We are also seeing this pretty frequently at the start of this semester. The challenge for us is to determine whether it is a Canvas or a PowerSchool issue.

Thanks! Glad to hear it's not just us. We're a pretty large district so when things like this happen I'm always curious if it's just us being a large district with grade syncs running all day, or if it's happening to others.

My educated guess -- that because Grade Sync is a one way trip from Canvas -> PowerSchool that the issue is happening on the PowerSchool side.

We are noticing this issue, as well. 

When I got in touch with Canvas, they said deleting the assignment in PowerSchool, then doing a Remaster Grade Passback the error shouldn't reoccur. I haven't had 100% success with it yet because then another issue arises as well.

That's weird that Canvas support is suggesting that you delete the assignment in PowerSchool.

With the new OneRoster Grade Sync integration, if you delete the assignment in PowerSchool, you'll get a Assignment Not Found error that will require you to have the teacher wipe the gradebook, then you (as the admin) reset the integration through SIS Integration -> Utilities - Reset Integration Data. The Remaster Grade Passback won't work at all, because you'll just get the error.

I'm sorry, I didn't mention that part. They did mention completing a Reset Integration and then Remaster Grade Passback.

Here is what they said specifically:
"It looks like there is an issue with the assignments in PowerSchool. What I would suggest doing it deleting the assignments from PowerSchool that show in the error reports. What I am seeing it that this assignment and sometimes this assignment are returning errors. Once they are deleted from PowerSchool you can let us know and we can clear the integration data for them and then remaster those two assignments from Canvas.

This error is coming from PowerSchool and indicates that they are not seeing a record in the grade book for the associated section for that specific assignment. This could be cause by creating the assignment or parts of it manually in PowerSchool. There is potential other actions in PowerSchool could disrupt the connection but I would advise reaching out to their support for verification on what those specifics are."

We have attempted this with a teacher where they deleted all their assignments in PowerSchool, ran a Reset Integration, then did a Remaster Grade Passback and errors were still populating. Attempting to put in a ticket with PowerSchool now to see what issues are.

Yes. We have been receiving it all week long. The response from the Canvas SIS team is to contact PowerSchool because the issue is a response sent from them, not Canvas. We need a Remaster Grade Sync button in SIS Integration to run this function on all runs with errors.

I wish the client was able to control the mapping that is occurring in OneRoster to eliminate many of the issues the integration creates.

We are also experiencing this with no solution. When I as an admin run a remaster grade passback the issues clear. When the teachers run the sync it's random in which students it does or doesn't add a grade for in PowerSchool.

I'm glad that it's not just me. I'm just at teacher and have been remastering my gradebook and manually entering grades for offending assignments until today.  Now I'm getting the same lineItem.sourceId "XXXXX" error but this time it's not for a specific assignment but for five specific students. The XXXXX portion of the thing is identical for the students too. I'm trying a remaster right now to see if that clears it up, but elsewise I'll be typing in their scores one by one to make sure it's right at  the moment.

I'm starting to feel like the sync fails because edits are made while the sync is going through.  Each time we run the sync, different failures exist. They're not the same thing every time.  I've done all the things including the reset of integration data. I've found if you keep running the sync, EVENTUALLY it goes through and how many times the sync needs to happen, depends on how many assignments are in the course.  Currently, I'm working on a course that honestly, most all grades are fine and match up in PowerSchool but there are a couple here and there that are an issue.  I have been running multiple syncs over two days and it is getting better and better with each one, but it  is taking a lot of time and patience for sure.  

I'd love to know the reasoning behind this as it is definitely a new issue. It doesn't make a lot of sense and the most sense I can make of it, is that the teacher is editing grades while I"m running syncs and those grades are failing.
