Hello!
We are having a very frustrating problem and canvas support has so far been unable to help!
We are syncing nightly with Powerschool. When students' schedules are changed in powerschool (ie moved from one class to another) they are properly enrolled in the new class in canvas, but not unenrolled in the old class!
As you can imagine at the beginning of the year we process many course changes.
We've never had this problem before and have not knowingly changed anything with our powerschool sync.
I have verified in the sync that canvas is sent the proper enrollments. But we cant figure out if the problem is on canvas's side or powerschool. There SIS Import area, there is the "This is a full batch update" but we arent manually importing data that way, so I dont think that has any relevance?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
@PLPBrant Welcome! As a large institution that uses PowerSchool for our SIS, I have also faced this issue! It's absolutely frustrating! The good news is that the old enrollments can be safely deleted if the student is not in the class anymore.
I would NOT touch the "full batch update" checkbox! That will basically wipe your whole instance and then replace the data with what you've uploaded. That would NOT be good for you.
I would first check your PowerSchool enrollments and ensure that the student has a proper end date to the enrollment in the old class.
It looks like you're looking at the sync and ensuring that you have proper enrollments, which is great! If the above solution doesn't work, I would suggest putting in a SIS ticket in the Field Admin Console in both PowerSchool and Canvas to have them check on the backend as to why the unenrollment is not processing.
