I have manually graded a few questions in a new quiz. At the bottom of the speed grader for each student, it shows the correct number of points awarded. But in the gradebook and at the top of the speed grader, it shows the original points awarded. This box is grayed out and I can't edit it. For example, Student was originally awarded 20.25/32 on the exam. With the adjustment, Student now has 24/32. This does not automatically update in the gradebook. Why not??
@schroedert2 Did you use the Regrade option in SpeedGrader when regrading the quiz questions (see How do I regrade a quiz question in New Quizzes?)? Or did you go into Build to edit the quiz? If you made the changes in Build, this is not considered a Regrade and the points will not be updated in the gradebook.
If you used SpeedGrader, did you select the Update button at the bottom of the quiz attempt? If you are still having an issue with the score updating for the quiz, you may want to contact Canvas Support for further assistance.
The regrade doesn't really apply to these questions. I use the multiple answer format and count each question as a point whether is a checked answer or not. For example, there are seven options, three of which would be checked. Canvas will give a weird score depending on the combination of supposed to be checked boxes. So I go in and manually adjust the points. At the bottom of the speed grader, it shows the corrected score for the quiz, but on the right where it says "Grade out of ___" it has the original score. This is grayed out and I can't change it. So is the Update button at the bottom. It also does not update in the gradebook, so I have to go in and manually change all the grades in the gradebook. Why doesn't it just update the new score automatically?
Hi Schroedert2,
That option to update the grade shouldn't be grayed out if you've altered how many points that student earned while. You do have to do it for each student individually, but that should properly let you select it to update their grade. Once you do, you may have to refresh your page, but it should then be showing properly on the right hand side as well via the "grade out of ___" and gradebook as well.
If it isn't, please feel free to reach out to Canvas support, as they will be more than happy to look at it for you and help determine what is going on in your specific case.
