Hey all. Long time Canvas User, Long time Mastery Connect User. Have been delivering MC assessments for many years through the Mastery Connect submission tool. This November, the tool stopped working (couldn't find assessment). I learned that there is a new Mastery Tracker feature in the navigation menu, so I started connecting my existing Mastery Connect trackers with the Mastery Tracker in the menu. This worked perfectly with my singleton class. I have a cross-listed course with three sections. I have checked and double checked the courses with the trackers to be sure the sections are the same. When I get to the part where I select the source, the option to Link to Existing tracker is not live. It cannot be selected from the drop down menu.
What is keeping me from getting this done? IT seems like the option to link the trackers to a cross linked class is an option because the choices are there for me to select the MC trackers for each section. But after that, I cannot proceed. I sure do hope this isnt because I have a cross-listed course.
Hello,
The existing tracker you are attempting to link would need to have all the students in the single tracker since you are connecting it to a course that has been cross listed. It seems the enrollment is not matching up with the course and tracker.
Interesting. A step backward for me, if I am honest. I set up trackers using my SIS for each course. I cross list my courses in Canvas. So now I cannot use the Mastery Connect assignment turn in for students to directly open and access my tests because my crosslisted sections are in different trackers. This sends me backward about three years, to the days when Mastery Connect wasn't integrated with Canvas. Not an improvement in my book for me. Why is this being done?
This is the same situation for me. And it did work last semester. So Canvas has changed something because it does not automatically link this semester like it did last semester. Now it is asking me to link each section individually. I believe that the team recognized this as a need, because there is a screen that asks you to select each class individually. But then on the next screen there both of those options in the original post are blanked out for me too. Something is broken.
This is frustrating because I also had used both Canvas and Mastery Connect separately but had begun to use them together. It was working well last semester and saved me some time. And I had hoped to save a lot of time in the future. My students keep asking me when we are going to take the quiz, and I keep telling them there is something wrong with Canvas. Please fix this. I would love for direct access to your programmers so that problems like this can be fixed in the system. The original post is correct. This is a Canvas change that is causing a Canvas issue.
Yes, Matt. From what I understand as things have unwound here in my system there was some kind of "glitch" in assigning Mastery Connect assessments using the external tool (maybe this is the right word?). Anyway, I had used this successfully for three years and all of a sudden, the kids couldn't click on a button to start their tests...they weren't linked. This corresponded with the appearance of the Mastery Tracker in my navigation menu. I had believed I needed to use this navigation tool to make my tests work with the external tool. I do not think this is correct any more. I am going to try once more to roll out an assessment with the external tool and see what happens.
The mastery tracker navigation tool will link the canvas course with a mastery tracker. I cross link my classes, so if I want to use the mastery tracker navigation tool, I need to have all of my students in the cross linked class in the same tracker. I don't currently do that. I don't think the navigation tool is for me, the way I use Canvas. I should still be able to assign tests to sections in my course using the external tool though. That was a coincidental problem here in my county (or maybe not, who knows).
This sounds random and rambling. I hope it makes sense.
