I've used WebCT, Moodle and Blackboard. In those LMSes I've been able to upload my course files using webdav or ftp. Can I do the same with Canvas?

 @rdecker , greetings! It looks like you’ve stumped this group, but I’ve shared this with the Canvas Developers‌ group in the Communith to see if they can help!

Hi Randolph,

The short answer (assuming you’re talking about an Instructure-hosted instance) is “no”. Canvas leverages Amazon’s storage cloud in a different way than LMS built on “traditional” LAMP platforms.

Bulk upload is possible via the GUI (https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12732-415241386), but if you want direct access to files from a computer, that needs to scripted via the API.

Best,

 @rdecker ...

I don't have experience with webdav or ftp, so I don't really know the reasons why you'd like to upload files to a course in that way.  However, have you considered zipping up your files and then extracting them using the tools that Canvas provides?  How do I upload ZIP files as an instructor?  Or, in your File Explorer on your computer, you can select a bunch of files all at one time then drag and drop them into your "Files" area of your course.  How do I upload a file to a course?  Or, there is this option, too: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12732-415241386

Hope this helps!

Thanks Chris. Yes I do know to zip files and upload them. However, I like using Dreamweaver to manage websites. I've used it for years and it's very easy to design pages, manage them locally and upload them with a click.
